Animal Success Stories
Penelope
Some things are just meant to be no matter how much you deny it! I have had the pleasure in fostering for the T.A.R.A alliance and I have to say what a great feeling it is to give a rescue dog a place to feel safe and warm until ‘adopted’ fills their empty void.
Penelope the British Bulldog came to live with me and I have to say I have probably learnt more from Penny than I have taught her. After being liberated from a puppy mill with over 20 others, she has gone from being a ‘breeder and number’ to being a FAMILY pet with a name Penelope (or Penny as I affectionately call her). She knew she was getting a second chance in life, and she relished every moment, learning, adapting, loving and sleeping soundly. I tackled a few ‘diva’ issues with relatively ease, because Penny seemed to say “I’m listening and I’m learning” That before I knew it, she had already found herself happily joining in as a part of my household and three other family dog-kids. But always I told myself ‘She is a foster, I can’t have another..NO NO NO, this is what’s best for her”
But then that possible forever home looms, and the thought of watching her shine without you grabs a hold of your heart, you tear up, a lump forms in your throat and you realize…”She’s already home.”
Penny is my first foster failure and I know that when I can in the future I will foster more and again most probably failure on that special one that fits just right. For me that has been Penny, when she fears I will be there, when she cowers and remembers her past I will be there; anything she wants. What do I get in return…Penny showing me the power of forgiveness of her past with her unconditional love, funny Pennisims, snuggles and ultimate true friendship…
You are home Penny, you are home….
