Animal Success Stories
Lexus
Hello! Things are going great. We actually re-named her "Penelope" so we are calling her "Penny" for short. She is such a dream. She has had only a few accidents inside, but is really good at going potty when she's outside. We purchased a crate for her, and keep it next to the bed at night. The first night she was here, she cried for a few minutes, but then fell asleep. There are lots of toys for her, and she loves them! She has a miniature rawhide stick "thing", and a little bone that she enjoys chewing on. She seems to be pretty good at playing fetch - I can't believe the size of the balls she brings back!
I had my bridal shower tonight, and everyone loved her. She is so friendly, and so fun to watch and play with. My matron of honor's 9-month old baby boy was here, and she just sniffed him and was very calm around him - definitely a plus! She gets along really well with my mom's dogs (all 3 of them!). We have been taking her with us in the car, and I have been carrying her around a lot - she does FANTASTIC with both of those things. I can not imagine having a better tempered dog!
Oh, and she struggled some with all of the stairs that are here, but she is not a stair master! She can run up and down them now with no problems!
The only bad news is that we took her to my parents' vet today, who told us the reason her eyes are so watery is that her eyelids are slightly rolled in. He said she will need surgery, to prevent eye infections and to just keep her more comfortable. He also said she has so many extra teeth that they probably WILL need to be pulled. I almost fainted when he was talking about her eyelids, but the surgery sounds relatively simple. He said she's not in any pain right now, which is good. So, we hope to get her in for that surgery ASAP so she can be more comfortable! She is so sweet, we don't want her to feel icky. Also, we signed up for the monthly pet insurance for her. It won't cover her eyelid surgery or the teeth removal, but I think it will be good to have. The vet DID say she does NOT have a heart murmor, and that she has good knee caps (both of which are often problematic with poms I guess?) - so we are grateful for that!!
Anyway, I could write a whole book about her, as you can see! Thank you for taking such good care of her. I am so glad there are people like you who enable these animals to live long, happy lives. She is amazing. I have always been more of a cat person, but I just adore her (so does my fiance - he gave her a bath the other day and dried her very gently with the blow dryer - it was too cute!!). I will attach some pics if I can figure out how. We will definitely stay in touch! Thanks again!
P.S. Did Layla find a home??
