Walrus
BTW,
You can tell everyone that Walrus is AWESOME! Really the perfect dog. We love him.
Thanks,

Whitley
Hi, Tracey,
Thanks for asking. Whitley's first days here have been great. She traveled comfortably, no anxiety about the car ride at all. She walks perfectly on a loose leash, much better than her new "sister." The dogs had an uneventful introduction. I introduced Whitley to the house, room by room. Then I took the two dogs for a walk. They were very comfortable with each other. Sammy, our pointer, was clearly tickled to have a new playmate. They're getting along very well.
Whitley met our barn cats yesterday. She was very casual, no excitement or agitation. The cats are good judges of what dogs they trust, and they weren't concerned in the least about Whitley's visit.
She has already met a few of my friends. She is understandably timid but consistently calm and gradually more cordial. She really has a great temperament. Last night she was retrieving tennis balls for me! This morning she was coming on command and sitting for treats.
And the big score: she's been so good on walks Friday night and yesterday that this morning we walked around the yard off-leash! She stayed right with me, more interested in what I was doing than in the antics of Sammy, the pointer. She'll grow more independent as she gains confidence here, of course, but I'm sure she'll be the kind of companion dog I enjoy.
So we're off to a great start. I think Whitley has enjoyed getting acquainted with her new environment. And I'm having fun getting to know her.
Thank you for your help in facilitating the adoption. Say hi to my young friend, Emery (?). I was so impressed by his maturity and his understanding of the pet rescue process. Let him know that Whitley is enjoying her new home and family. I haven't tried hotwheels.com yet.
Best wishes to you and TARA's Dream.

Wilamena
Willy has settled it Great! She sleeps in bed with me at night and has gotten very brave at exploring during the day. For the most part she stays in my room but I leave the door open for her now and she's taken to sniffing around. She has no problems with dealing with things. She snuffles a lot to get to know what something is and she sneezes because she sniffs a lot more. But other then that she's great! She's really taken to everyone especially me. I've realized how much she loves strings by how she'll try to steal off with my headphones while they're still in my ears! haha She also loves her mice that my mom bought her. (she and papa dote on her when they come over.) I've been having no problems with her scratching but I plan on making her a post so that in the future she can have a place to scratch.
We've kinda mixed her name. We were going to name her the captain (pirate theme, haha) But we also liked Wilamena so we just named her Captain Willy. It fits. It also falls off the tongue well. Anyway, she's adapting wonderfully and everyone here loves her (especially me).
Sincerely,
Emma Kinney and The captain
Wee Willie Winkle
Virginia,
Hi, we have named him Leo. I have a friend with a dog named Willy. His house breaking is going well. He had a few accidents the first week and that was about it. He is very sweet and quiet. He has warmed up to me but is not so sure of Dan. We are hoping he will get use to men also. Dan does take him for a walk when he gets home. Leo is reluctant at first and walks with his tail between his legs for the first block or so and then he gets a little more relaxed. Any tips on how to have he and Dan bond, would be gratefully accepted. We have had friends send him squeaky toys and balls, which he will have nothing to do with. I squeaked one and shook it towards him and he peed on it. We might be re-gifting the toys! (not the one with pee!) He is also not fond of dry dog food, so we have been giving him canned. I did get samples of some dry dog food at "Land of Paws," which he ate. Figures he likes all natural and expensive dog food. Maybe he lived in Johnson County earlier in his life. We hope to see continued progress with him. He is more relaxed but not a tail-wagger as of yet!
Keep in touch.
Jody
