Cricket is a 5 year old Yorkie. She weighs 12lbs. She is house trained and crate trained – good with people (teens older than 15, please), other dogs, but she is not playful with them. She can peacefully live together with doggies and kitties, but with little or no interaction.
She was dumped at a shelter by her owner who was moving. She was in bad shape when she got to the shelter – underweight - very scared - flea infested – missing fur. The shelter staff worked with her and started her on the road to recovery. Then TARA rescued her from the shelter and got her spayed, current on all shots, heart worm tested and microchipped. She is on healthy diet and her fur is growing back now and she is ready for her forever home.
Cricket is coming out of her shell more and more every day in her foster home. At first she just slept. Now she’s starting to play with toys – she loves squeak toys. She is very very affectionate – loves nothing more than to just be on your lap getting belly rubs. She loves car rides and going for walks. She knows “sit” and will gently take a treat from you.
Her personality is a little reserved – she doesn’t bark much. She doesn’t wrestle and play with her foster brother. She would do fine living with another dog but would also be fine as a solo dog. She will sit on the ottoman and reach her paw out to her foster mom trying to get a pet – but doesn’t just jump up on your lap unless she’s invited.
She was at an adoption event yesterday (9/20) to meet a potential adopter and she displayed some behavior that her foster mom has not seen in the 3 weeks she has been in her foster home. Gemma was very nervous at the Petco…there were a lot of people – she greeted several dogs nicely but when a person bent down to pet her, she showed her teeth and snapped. We immediately took her outside to meet her adopter in a more calm setting, but she continued to show her teeth and did not warm up to the woman or her friend.
She will need to be adopted by a family who is dog savvy and willing to work on her socialization. She will need to be introduced to family and friends that visit the home properly and with careful supervision. Gemma Nee Cricket is a very sweet and loving dog but – she is also a little fearful in unfamiliar situations and with new people. With proper training and time spent taking her to new places she will grow in confidence and be a more well rounded pet.
If this is something you are willing and able to work with, then please apply for her today.
Cricket is trying hard to put her past behind her and is looking forward to getting adopted into a great new family. Maybe yours?
