Shep came to us from a high kill, rural Missouri shelter. We're not sure what her life was like before coming to TARA, but it must not have involved a lot of loving human interaction as she is pretty fearful of new humans. Since coming to Kansas City, she has been living in a loving foster home, learning to trust. She loves her foster momma and will follow her around the house and lay at her feet, but she REALLY loves her canine foster siblings! She really needs the companionship of another, more confident, dog to help her adjust to changes in life and to learn to trust the humans in her environment.
Shep is great with other dogs, cats and even children! She is housetrained, but is not vocal in signaling her need to go outside. Instead, she will dance around a bit, and if you ask her if she needs to go outside, she'll run to the door. She is also crate trained and accustomed to sleeping in her crate at night, though she is an early riser, usually needing a potty break by about 6am.
Shep is a beautiful and happy dog when she's comfortable in her home environment. In order to make sure she has the best chance for a successful and happy transition to her new home, we are requiring that her forever family have at least one other canine companion for her.
