This poor girl was jumping on cars in the middle of traffic hoping someone would stop and pick her up. She is so lucky she didn't get hit and that one of our volunteers saw her. Leona jumped right in the car and laid down in the back seat as if she knew she was finally safe. It's a sad reality that there are so many irresponsible pet owners who don't keep their pets safe. Not only was Leona running loose in traffic, she also has mange which was going untreated. Her type of mange is 100% treatable and not contagious to other animals or humans. She gets her daily medicine and will continue to do so until we get a negative skin scraping.
Leona really enjoys other dogs and doing things like going to the dog park. Still a puppy, Leona is not very familiar with the leash and she needs a family with lots of patience that will work with her on obedience. Her previous owners clearly neglected and ignored her. Leona would love doggie daycare and would most definitely benefit from formal training. The perfect size, Leona should not be more than 40 pounds or so when full grown. Great for a home with other pets or not, Leona is sure to steal your heart. Leona recently attended Pooches on the Parkway and won first place in the kissing contest. You can see from the pictures, she was quite proud of her ribbon!
