Meet Rufus! Rufus came from a rural shelter where his time was up and his days were numbered. The shelter workers knew this guy was special and boy, were they right. Since arriving in a foster home, Rufus has flourished and learned the ropes in such a short time. He is a very smart boy who is eager to learn and yearns to please his people.
Rufus knows commands like "sit", "lay", "speak", and sometimes "stay", but that's a really hard one for a happy, excited boy! He is potty trained and holds it all night until morning time to go outside. Rufus likes to be near people, dogs, and even cats! He has a healthy, playful energy that could be annoying to some older crabby pets, but Rufus would love to have a doggie companion that he can run and play with. At first, he wasn't a fan of going into his kennel, but in just one week he has learned the command "kennel" and a bit hesitantly, goes in. Eventually we know he will love the kennel as his safe place when his people are not home, but for now, Rufus responds so well to training with Milkbone treats and Pupperoni.
Its a good thing he likes his treats, because he had some weight to gain. He was only 50lbs at the shelter and we are working to add a bit more weight to him as time goes on. Rufus takes any food or treats very gently, even from a child, he is so very gentle when it comes to food. This is a great manner for him to have at a younger age of 2-3 years old.
Rufus likes to go for rides in the car, and loves to play fetch in the yard. He looks a bit like a deer when he runs because he has some long legs! We would guess Rufus to be a mix of Boxer and Pitbull, but there could be some more surprises in his breed mix. We are awaiting Rufus' DNA testing results and will update the profile here once they arrive.
Rufus will make an AMAZING companion, and we are excited to find out who the lucky family will be. Thank you for checking out this sweet boy.
