Changing their LUCK -- Saturday March 14th, 2009

The Animal Rescue Alliance (T.A.R.A.) participated in the Brookside St. Patrick's Day parade on March 14, 2009! It was a great day. The weather was beautiful, the crowds were huge, the dogs were well behaved, and we had a huge showing of volunteers! A crew of volunteers met early in the day to decorate our float and several more arrived later with the dogs! Our adoptable friends wore great pink "Adopt Me" coats! We passed out 480 fliers and collected $75.00 in donations along the parade route! As we walked along the parade route we were greeted with applause by the many animal lovers that live in this great city! Thanks to all who came out to support the homeless animals and made this St. Patrick's Day a lucky one for all! View lots of great pictures in the Photo Gallery!

Petco Costume Contest -- Saturday October 25th, 2008

T.A.R.A.'s youngest volunteers, Ali, Daisy and Kayla, were chosen as the judges for the Petco Costume Contest today! They saw cats and dogs dressed up in everything from Princesses to Grapes! All participants received an award! Our judges decided that 1st place should go to Little Red Riding Hood (a pomeranian) and the Big Bad Wolf (her owner)! You can see pictures from today's event and costume contest in our Photo Gallery! Thanks girls, you did an awesome job!

Annual Rummage Sale -- Wednesday October 1st, 2008

Thank you to all of the supporters of T.A.R.A. who helped make this year's Rummage Sale a success! We had many great items donated for the sale and we were able to raise $1600.00 together with P.A.W.S., another not for profit rescue organization! This money will surely benefit many animals that are in imminent danger in the Kansas City metro area! In addition to sales, we had many animals on site during the two day sale! These animals received a lot of attention and exposure in the community! We had several people stop by who were interested in learning more about the animals and our mission! If you missed the opportunity to help with this year's rummage sale and would still like to help the animals in our care, please visit the Support T.A.R.A. portion of our site for more ways to help!

Animal Cruelty in KS -- Tuesday September 16th, 2008

Teen is charged with animal cruelty. A 16-year-old Kansas City, Kan., boy has been charged with cruelty to animals for burning a cat. Nekko Pike is also charged in the juvenile division of Wyandotte County District Court with aggravated intimidation of a witness. Authorities said he burned a cat last month in the 4100 block of Willard Court. The cat’s injuries were so significant that it had to be euthanized. The case angered many when it happened in August. The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City offered a reward, which helped produce several tips, authorities said. | Dawn Bormann, dbormann@kcstar.com
