Hello, love, my name is Nutmeg. I am not quite sure about this hat, but you know what that old English poem says: “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple.” And so there you have it. Not that I’m ancient—probably around six or seven, tops. I am set in my ways, however. For starters, rambunctious children send me scurrying under the bed for safety. And I get terribly bored if I’m left unattended for long. I might just decide that your rubbish needs sorting while you’re away, so you and I will both be happier if I’m safely enclosed in a cozy crate while you’re out and about. But I am very sweet, I enjoy the company of other dogs, and I’d just love to sit next to you on the divan and keep you warm while you knit or watch Doc Martin on the telly or re-read a lovely Bronte novel. Oh, you should also know that I will sometimes bay at you while you’re fixing my supper, which my foster mom thinks is quite charming, and when we go out for a walk, I like to announce our progress as if we were leading a parade, and why not? Life is meant to be LIVED!
